Current soft contact lens is used not only to improve visibility, but also for style. But not all eyes can use a soft lens, especially on the types of people below.
"Not all can use a soft contact lens eye," said Dr. Tri Rahayu, SpM, FIACLE in talkshow Use Soft Lens Over 8 Hours Potentially Making Eyes Lack of Oxygen in the restaurant Bridges with Africa, Jakarta, Monday (07/11/2011).
Types of people who should not use this soft contact lens, according to Dr. Tri is:
1. Those with eyes who are experiencing active infection
2. Those with eyes who are experiencing active inflammation
"There are also people who have relative contraindications that need monitoring carefully," said the doctor who became head of the Division of Refraction and Contact Lenses Eye Department, Faculty of medicine RSCM.
Type of people who experience relative contraindications are:
1. People with dry eye disorders.
To experience a mild dry eye is still allowed to use contact lenses but with strict supervision, but if you have severe dry eye it is advisable not to use contact lenses.
2. People with eye disorders such as palpability decreased corneal sensitivity.
"People with reduced sensitivity will not feel anything when something is not comfortable with the cornea," said Dr. Tri.
Generally, these conditions are caused by several diseases such as neurological disease or minor stroke, and rarely occurs at birth.
Dr. Tri warned not to carelessly use contact lenses, eye examinations therefore needs to be done beforehand to determine whether he is suitable to use contact lenses or not, prevent the problem and diagnose the problem.
"As long as the use of a contact lens wearer should perform routine checks every 6 months, but if there are complaints do not wait until 6 months," said Dr. Tri who is also chairman of the contact lens center in Jakarta Eye Center.
